Club History - 495th R/C Squadron, Inc.
The 495th R/C Squadron, Inc. is a non-profit club chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) for the promotion of radio controlled (R/C) model aircraft. The club is based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and is comprised of approximately 160 members, coming from all walks of life, and is devoted to the design, construction and flying of R/C model airplanes, helicopters, and cars/trucks. Founded in 1972, the Club's name is derived from the first flying site used by the new club; the roadbed of the not-yet-completed Interstate 495 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Today, the Club maintains an R/C model flying field, located in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and offers free training to anyone that would like to learn to fly R/C model aircraft. Membership in the 495th R/C Squadron, Inc. is open to all current AMA members. The Club holds monthly meetings, as well as fun-fly events, barbeques and picnics. The success of any club is totally dependent on the efforts made by individual members to enhance the club for the membership. In the 30+ year history of the 495th R/C Squadron, Inc., the club has benefited from the efforts of many fine individuals who have given generously of their time and energy.
